Stainless steel Filet Baucher Bit with French Link
The Filet Baucher or Hanging Cheek French Link snaffle is a little stronger than an ordinary French link eggbutt snaffle. The longer cheek pieces add a small amount of poll pressure. The top ring attaches to the cheek pieces of the bridle and the larger ring to the reins.
When the rider picks up the reins and applies pressure to the bit, the bit tips forwards and creates a lift in the mouthpiece, which reduces the pressure across the tongue and bars of the mouth. It instead focuses the pressure on the corners of the lips, which can help to 'lift' a horse that can get heavy in the contact. The French link in the centre of the mouthpiece prevents the nutcracker action of a traditional single-jointed snaffle. Most horses are comfortable with the French link due to its ability to flex as the horse requires. The French link reduces the amount of tongue pressure associated with the jointed mouths and encourages the horse to accept the bit.
